Hi Covers.

This may have been covered in other threads, but couldn't find any.

Essentially, as I am just now completing the process of rolling out the
Procedure Documents in the organisation, and doing a Gap analysis on the Quality Manual I have compiled, I'm trying to 2nd guess auditors questions by following the Standard clauses.

Do Auditors have 'pet' questions or are there typical questions that that ask?

I am at pre-registration stage yet, but want to get this wrapped up now so that I'm not constantly fixing the Manual as I proceed with the process.

I've received great help from here already and hope there are simple accurate answers to follow to this question also.

Cheers guys.

Frankly I would not be too overly concerned about this. Marc's link will help set your mind at ease but I don't think you 'll have much porblem.
Assuming you are like most of us, you are building your manual and procedures from two core items. 1) What your system requires and 2) What the ISO Standard calls for. As you go back and forth between these two, you'll hit on a good combination that satisfies both AND more importantly you'll be able to answer any question intelligently because that is how you created your documents.

Peace

Yes James,

Marc's link is helpful and I'm doing pretty much what you've described.

So far, I feel that I could answer most questions as to how we comply and identify the procedure and record. Theres just that one awkward question that I know I'll get in an audit and wish I were prepared ; have never had an audit, so mainly this is my own paranoia. Hence the 'Standard' list of questions question.

Thanks for the link Marc. Have you any similar ones?

The best advice any of us can give you is - try to relax.
These auditors have down this road so many times and have "seen it all", or at least the lead auditor has. If you get a question that, "throws you", don't worry. Ask them for clarification, etc. If they happen to hit on something that you really hadn't thought of, just say so, and take the necessary steps to correct it.
The more relaxed, amiable and professional you are the easier the audit will be.

When I was first going through these things, I fully expected to "get nailed", and was frankly greatful for it (these were pre-cert audits. The auditor I used was frank, helpful and very easy to get along with....It also just happened to be our own Marc Smith....:notme:

Anyway - Long story short, don't expect to get everything nailed down the first time. And after you've been through it once, you'll know far better how your auditor(s) work, what they look for etc. Yes it will be stressful, but exciting too.

Peace
James

I agree the best thing is to just relax. Are you comfortable with what you are doing? If so, chances are that you will be able to explain everything to an auditor. You can pretty much tell what they are going to ask about by looking at the various sections of the standard and how they all fit into your processes. Take a deep breath, and be honest, if you find out that you need to fix something, fix it and move on. Good luck.:agree:

JRKH is right as is Steel.

If you're real freaked out get someone local to come and do a mock audit and walk-through. Back in the 1990's when I was doing implementation for a number of very large companies I would use a contract auditor to come in prior to the registrar by about a month to go through everything to make sure there was nothing I missed when doing the implementation. With my reputation at stake, with large companies I did not hesitate to bring someone in (a fresh set of eyes, so to speak) to look things over. And yes - A few times they found some things that I 'missed' (for lack of a better word). I used to do mock audits prior to the registrar coming and, for example, an auditor I contracted to check my work at one 5000 person facility found a whole department was not dating a specific form when they completed it which they should have been doing (systemic failure).
