Hey folks!

Hope everyone is doing well this day. I am currently revising my design procedure to ISO's new standard and although requirements are not required to be documented, I think it is always better when addressed in a procedure.
I have trouble understanding the following:-
ISO Cl. 8.3.2: Design and development planning
In determining the stages and controls for design and development, the organization shall consider:
a) nature, duration and complexity
f) need to control interfaces between persons involved in the design
h) requirements for subsequent provision of products and services

Just need a brief explanation of what they mean and how I can address the same in my design plans

Always appreciate the valuable info that comes off these forums and thanks in advance!

Regards,

Ronel

That's another aspect where one must understand the context of the organization in order to plan the design phases appropriately.

a) nature, duration and complexity
Are you designing the next version of the International Space Space Station or a coffee mug?

If you are designing the NextGen ISS, it will be an effort which will take millions of manhours, thousands of validations, tens of thousands of design verifications, numerous disciplines, suppliers distributed across the globe etc., etc. etc.

If you are designing a cheap coffee mug, there is very little to plan for. One person can do the design it in about an hour or less.

f) need to control interfaces between persons involved in the design
If the product being designed is complex, chances are, you will need a multidisciplinary effort and might have to involve customers and suppliers during the design development phases. Basically, it is a Project Management effort and the PM has to interface with many stakeholders

h) requirements for subsequent provision of products and services
Do you have to consider tooling for maintaining the product, post delivery? If so, you should be designing it too...
