ANSI Z1.9 governs sampling procedures for inspection by variables. Can anybody explain how the acceptability constant (k) for a single specification limit, or the maximum allowable percent nonconforming (MU, ML) for a double specification limit is derived?

I dont understand *k that much either and still trying to learn even now.
What i do know however is that it is related to a value where if your lot exceed it, you can expect the lot to be having more %defectives that the specified criteria p% = AQL. The computation is quite tedious and annoying (at least for me) since it is based on a non-central t-distribution which im not very familiar and is not on excel, minitab, or jmp.

i hope this bump would make the experts in variables sampling here give more info. But here is a link i found in google that might be helpful.
