Unused SIP/SOPs - IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2

Hello,

I could not seem to find guidance in IEC 60601-1 and IEC 60601-1-2 on how unused SIP/SOP should be handled for safety and EMC tests.

For example, what additional things do we need to do in order to waive testing on unused SIP/SOP?

Do we need to have these used SIP/SOPs plugged/covered with something that would require a tool to remove in order to access SIP/SOP?

Any SIP/SOP that is accessible without a tool is considered an accessible part (see cl. 5.9.2.1). If during normal use the SIP/SOP does not have to be accessible to the operator, covering it so that a tool is needed to get access is the best idea.

By this you prevent the "curious" operator from trying to connect something, like a non-ME computer or similar.

As long as the SIP/SOP is an accessible part ist has to included in testing, e.g. limitation of voltage, current and energy, external voltage during leakage current tests (up to maximum mains voltage)...
