I need advise - we have a printer situated in the ISO 8 Clean Room and as part of the printer head cleaing, it is suggested to use 93 % alcohol in the Clean Room.

Does anyone have experience on this ? What could be the quality and safety issues associated ? Are there any other methods for cleaning printer head in clean rooms ?

Howdy SGquality,

What type of printer? Screen printer? Inkjet Printer? Laser printer?
I doubt that any of these would be of any concern in an ISO8 cleanroom (Class 100,000)...I'm sitting in an ISO 8 room now ...
I've mentioned before that I'm pretty sure my house would pass ISO8. It's a pretty loose cleanroom level.

All-in-all, I'd be more concerned with having the printer print on paper than in cleaning the heads. But I've got three laser printers in this room spewing paper fiber and we still have no issues passing ISO8.

Are you on the edge of the 100,000 limit?

For general safety:
- Unplug the printer (or dismount the heads)...electricity and ethanol and all...
- Clean up spills immediately...general housekeeping stuff.

IMO, there is no cause for fear here.
What I WOULD do, however, is meet with the process owners within the cleanroom and ask if they have any direct impact concerns. (Ethanol cross-links my product, etc...)

I cannot see any relation between 93% alcohol use and clean room.
What does the printer manufacturer recommend to use ?
If possible, can you follow manufacturer's instruction for this by taking the printer out of the clean room, and back again ?
