Big E,
I have a button that says "Post Reply" in a little toolbox between the last post and the Quick Reply toolbox.
Post a pic. Use print screen if you have to. Maybe that's a shortcut! ;)

Energy,

You have got to get those tired old eyes of your examined. At the top and bottom of each page (preceding and following the thread) you should see (that is once you clean them eyeballs) a little blue "button" that's labeled POST REPLY(just to the right of the "New Thread" button). :biglaugh:
How about Icy's response? That sounds different. No? leave my tired eyes alone, 4 eyes. :agree:

CX,
Mine seems to be working OK and we are required to keep the MS OS (98) updated. Have you updated the Ad Aware reference file recently? I made the same kind of misclick last week. :bonk: If Bob_M had not suggested Ad Aware I would have never got my system cleaned out (THANK YOU BOB!) :bigwave: . However, there was a BS3.DLL file loaded on my PC and being run on startup (run MSCONFIG to see what's in there) and Ad Aware did not detect it. It reinstalled the whole mess every time I rebooted. I couldn't use IE due to all the hijacks and popups. I booted in safe mode, deleted BS3.DLL, then removed the RUNDLL from my startup. Sent the file to Lavasoft and 2 days later their updated reference file detected the little b*****d on the floppy disk where I had manually quarantined it as well as a previously undetected registry key. :smokin:
Ice,
Updated Ad-Aware files yesterday, rechecked again today...still gots same problem, looked for the .DLL, don't got it...
Makes me nuts having to wait - impatience is an issue for me - we are on a dedicated T1 line that is fast as lighting...not use to waiting for anything...LOL
Thanks again,
CX

Usually I press the 'Post Reply' button near the bottom of the page (under all the posts) unless I want to quote.

Sounds like you're having a bad week. That's twice now that I've 'got you'
You can also use the 'Quote' button on the post and then just delete the quote and enter your text. Or use the 'Quick Reply' button on each post and after you type a few words there's a box there that says something like 'Go Advanced' or something.

This has more to do with those who use the 'Threaded' mode - it links your reply to a specific post.

I *think* the Reply button - the big one - links your new post to the last post in the thread.

You got it Marc. I always hit "post reply" unless I'm quoting and I get linked to the last post in the thread. Does anyone here use other than the "Linear" mode? Much like the Sheriff, I can't scroll back and forth fast enough in "Threaded".

I don't like threaded very much - at least the way it is set out here. But if it's done well it can be nice because you can see all the branches from each post and such. Part of the problem here is vB didn't have threaded until the beta release so all the pre-v3 threads are all linear anyway.

But many people do like threaded mode - or did at one time. I haven't seen any recent discussion on the pros and cons of each. Threaded was an early 'standard' which arose out of the way News Group (NG) worked. Some people hate threaded mode because one can't print out a total thread in threaded mode. It was an early complaint people made to me back in the WWWBoard setting - see http://elsmar.com/old_forum.html . One had to print out each post one at a time. That was when I moved to UltimateBB - a linear model.

For moderators the threaded aspect makes doing things like splitting threads more difficult because typically they're in linear mode and when they go to split the thread it shows as threaded so the posts they may want to move aren't in the same order as they expect.

I normally use the linear view - oldest first. But I do try to use the 'quick reply' on a post or the 'quote' on a post to link my reply to the specific post I'm replying to. I rarely use the 'big' reply button myself.

Just some thoughts.

I hadn't really looked to see which post the 'Big' reply button would tie the reply to because I rarely look at a forum in the threaded mode. Last post in the thread, eh? OK - that settles that!
