VDA 6.3 Process Audit - but we're ISO9001:2008

Quick question. If our systems are in control based on ISO9001:2008 then how far out do you think we could be if we had a VDA 6.3 audit?

I guess I am asking is how comparable are VDA and ISO9001? I guess some non-conformance but surely a good system is transferable to a large degree to another process based standard. If not then isn't it time the Automotive sector agreed a unified standard to be used by all??

Re: VDA6.3 - but we're ISO9001:2008

VDA 6.3 is a process audit and not a systems audit.
The systems version is VDA 6.1

There are a number of issues that are not covered in ISO 9001.

I suggest that you request from the body auditing you the questionnaire that they will use.
You can also buy the standard VDA Webshop

Is this a customer audit?
I say so, because the customer send in advance this type of form based on DVA 6.3 when they search for new supplier in the automotive sector.
Before performing audit on your premises, they send you the form with a series of question based on that standard where you are supposed to evaluated yourself with evidences. They will successively make double check on the field.

Yes, customer audit. One of many. It must be Audit season or something!!

Not had any questions through but time for that I reckon.

I've read up a bit on VDA6.1 and VDA 6.3. I just wonder if we have a good quality system in place that is in control then we should be ok. Since I reckon the ultimate goal of any quality standard is to ensure a level of quality or conformance to quality (forgive my naive use of terms) then one system should produce results when audited against another that is at least considered acceptable. However I somehow doubt it is ever that simple.

Be prepared to accomplish this and take it as an opportunity to improve your QMS. remember also that the fact to meet customer requirment during this audit will increase your business!:bigwave:

Your customer will also ask you abit control plan, fmea pm, process flow , msa, spc etc... this are included in automotive items.
Did you ever sing off a PPAP or is this the first time that you have links with this customer?

That is the whole point of the audit for both sides. We take any CA required as a positive to the bottom line as it means more work is likely. Or more accurately if we don't make the required changes (aren't there always some of these) then the new tranche of work won't be coming our way. The customer takes from them the supplier that has systems in place that is likely to meet their requirements. Also they can gauge the attitude of the management and particularly whether they are customer orientated. A supplier with the right attitude for your company is also important. You want to work with them when they are like that and not clobber them every time there is a problem (if there is a problem that is).

Mind you it does seem that some Corrective actions or issues that get picked up are a bit subjective.

Since June 2012, we have been through two VDA 6.3 audits, finishing the second one yesterday, 11.08.2012. I will say this... TS16949/QS9001 audits are a walk in the park compared to a VDA audit. Yes, we successfully passed both audits with "A" scores, however, it was not easy. Just make sure that you have every "T" crossed and every "I" dotted and still that may not be enough. A word of advice that will be of great benefit, purchase the VDA 6.3 Process Audit standard and go through it with a fine tooth comb. Good Luck!!!
