It is about 30 years since I dealt with this at a Naval Torpedo Maintenance Facility. We had to deal with an ordnance ground when working around the warhead, and an electrical ground when working around the "brains" of the torpedo. During inspections, we would take hits for the sailors did not put on the right strap, use the right ground, test the strap, or even use it in the first place. We determined the procedures in use gave the sailors no guidance or help, so we did insist on creating procedures for how to don and test the strap, which one to use when, which ground to use when. Doing this ended up resolving issues to the computer chips and of course, gave us an extra layer of protection against things going "boom". And shut up the inspectors.

I am afraid I don't remember or have the actual SOP's but they did address the choice of ground and resistance of the strap, and once you had it on, how to test it was making good contact with your skin.

You can create one using this as a template, I learned it over 50 years ago. Modify the words and use civilian terminology

The Marine Corps General orders are a set of 11 orders every Marine learns in basic training.

They are as follows:

  1. To take charge of this post and all government property in view.
  2. To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.
  3. To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce.
  4. To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guardhouse than my own.
  5. To quit my post only when properly relieved.
  6. To receive, obey, and pass on to the sentry who relieves me, all orders from the commanding officer, the officer of the day, and all officers and noncommissioned officers of the guard only.
  7. To talk to no one except in the line of duty.
  8. To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.
  9. To call the corporal of the guard in any case not covered by instructions.
  10. To salute all officers, and all colors and standards not cased.
  11. To be especially watchful at night, and during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.
