Website change documentation - Labeling and Audits

Hi everyone,

I think a company website is a controlled document, needs a document number, and that all changes to the site, at least regarding product information, need approval and documentation (update of revision number), and so on. Like every product flyer. So, every small change needs a "change request form" to be filled out and filed, right? How are you doing this?

Thanks for your input! I am the black box... ;-) Let us see what kind of output I create...

Controlling the entire website might be challenging. Don't forget that obsolete copies of controlled material needs to be retained per your policy / regulations.

I recommend limiting the scope of what needs to be controlled. The only parts that would need control would be where any claims are made OR if you post your Instructions / Information for users online.

It gets much trickier if you have, say, a blog page, and worse, if you allow user testimonials or the like (a potential source for identification of off-label use). There, you have to exercise vigilance over what is posted.

If you can partition off sections that need to be controlled and train the site developers / maintainers to stay out of those and what they can / cannot post on the other areas, you simplify matters greatly.

I agree with yodon.
It's not feasible to control the entire website and maintain dignity within the organization. :)

One of the companies I worked with had a "marketing claims" file. It was a control document and whatever was inside was allowed to be used on marketing materials (brochure and the likes) and the web site. That might work for you!
