I recently broke down and bought a Wii. I blame a friend. It's all his fault. We are both competitive by nature and who knew that computer pool could end up being a full contact sport?!?!
Needless to say, to avoid allowing my friend to have the advantage, we went to a store and acquired myself a Wii. It was almost free, too...we had just visited the Windsor Casino with the rule of $20 in the slots. No more. My friend was done in a few pulls. I walked out with over $200. Apparently, I now have a horseshoe up my...umm...derriere.
Getting back to the Wii. I bought the Wii unit and the Wii Play - this way, I would have extra games and two remotes.
As a person who can be all thumbs and thus has avoided XBox and PlayStation games, the Wii is great for those of us who are are coordination-challenged!
It's interesting to see that my real life problem in baseball still applies even on the Wii. I keep swinging too early. And my constant "to the right" swing in golf is also carrying over into the Wii.
When the parents came over for Father's Day supper, my Wii kept them busy while I cleaned up in the kitchen and prepped dessert. FYI, I apparently come by my competitive nature quite naturally...and from both sides!
My father beat my mom at fishing and pool. But she kicked butt at shooting and cow racing...?!?!?!...where she aquired those skills, I don't want to know!
My Wii experience has expanded now to Sims:Castaways (I think one of the chimps has a crush on me), a Star Trek strategy game (my poor Romulan captain keeps getting blown up by the nasty Klingons), and my new favourite "Big Brain Academy."
"BBA" has become the new challenge between my Wii friend and I. Based on our results - and the fact that I'm kicking his butt in the intelligence category - I've started bemoaning that it's awfully difficult to make me be both the brains and the beauty. At least he can be the braun. 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
The best part of the Wii is the fact that it's travel-friendly. We've started having Wii parties at our group meetings. It's promoting team work and keeping our bar tab down. Our next mission is to find out if a tv in the hotel bar has the hookups...we're all for multi-tasking and feel it is unfair to choose between our alcohol and our Wii.
I'm hoping to get a Wii Fit for myself as a Christmas gift. My friend has it and while it's absolutely hysterical watching a 40 year old man do hula-hoops (anyone need a moment to picture it....take a second...it's okay...I'll wait...), it helps determine where your centre is so that you can adjust your posture.
The Wii Fit also has yoga and pilates features. Which is good. I did pilates at the gym...and, if my reflection in the mirror is any indication, I've mastered the turtle-stuck-on-its-back position. Frankly, the idea of looking like a total idiot in public holds little appeal to me. Doing pilates in the privacy of my own home - even with the dog and cat jumping around - sounds safer.
If you haven't tried a Wii yet, I highly suggest you give it a go. I think you can rent them from a video store. They're easy to hook up and unhook. The remotes are like using a tv remote. And up to four people can play at once. Online play is also an option - something I haven't yet tried.
I had put off trying the Wii, thinking it was just another computer platform and I wasn't into such games. I'm now an addict, I admit. Anyone else??
