I keep hearing this very often...manufacturing adds value to the product by processing it... and same parlance is used/expected from QA process/personnel. How would you answer that expectation?:frust:

What are the (criteria &) processes of QA which you would consider to be value adding... and how would you measure them? :frust:

If you are looking at QA out of manufacturing. then certainly your expectation of value addition is justified. However manufacturing must be looked at production + quality + some more direct and supporting processes so that the value addition from each fuses into one as the output product.

Within the manufacturing process, quality is not a value-adder, it is a waste-reducer. But you must view it from the customer of the process to determine if it is value-added. By reducing the manufacturing waste by having processes that eliminate bad product, then the customer may view that as a value-added service.

...or...value maintaining process! Doesn't add value, but it assures the value in the previous process was maintained.
