What difference(s) you see before and after ISO 9001 certification?

It all depends on top management's commitment.

If top management doesn't embrace it and fully support it, a quality management system is a constant thorn in the company's side.
Indeed. The irony is that a good QMS frees management from constantly handling "special" problems: putting out fires, settling arguments in your team, dealing with dissatisfied customers. But these problems are mostly not special at all. They are often a consequence of not having a system to document the way that things should be done and learning from mistakes. In other words, not having quality.

In our company, the time spent by top management on those "special" types of problems went way down, and that's one big difference we see before and after ISO 9001.

Each process is supposed to be measured and monitored (cl 4.1 and 8.2.3). The trend results from those metrics should be a good report card of how the company is performing, and whether it is getting value and benefit from their ISO program. That is the intent of ISO, to improve performance. Not just audit findings or doing ISO better.

(If you do not see improved performance, hire me to help. Improving performance is what I specialize in.)
Yes we do track our process performance - key performance indicators. But this is process specific. The question was about efficiency or sales related.

Hi,

For a better demonstration I would share the results of the objectives that the organization has set. e.g

1. % of growth.
2. New customers.
3. Process effectiveness

etc.

Thanks
Thank you for sharing this. Yes I think these are key in presenting it to new hires.

Your question is about Certification, not the implementation of a Quality Management System (based on ISO 9001) isn't it? I want to be sure, the correct question is answered...

Certification benefits don't affect many things people have posted about, since that's more about having an effective management system and implementation, not what your CB brings to the table!

So, if you truly are asking about the before and after of certification, I'd expect something along the lines of:-

An increase in opportunities to bid on work from new customers (they chose you because you have a certificate)!

A reduction in disruption/costs associated with customer audits. (some won't need to audit you if you have a certificate)

A reduction in time taken to complete customer quality surveys (don't complete the form, just send a copy of your certificate)

What value do you attribute to the findings from your CB auditor? (you pay them to come in and find something, don't you?)

That's what I was trying to communicate...you worded it much better than I. Thanks.

I am asking about the difference in the implemenation of QMS (based on ISO 9001 certification).

You should see an improvement in process performance - and, possibly, a lot more issues being raised for action. Before, there may not have been a mechanism to flag problems for resolution. When implementing a QMS (based on ISO) it's more than likely that more problems are seen. It may be that some people equate this to ISO causing problems, rather than awareness of the correct/true situation.

In one example I'm very familiar with, the "First Time Through" yield improved 42%:mg:

You just implement and maintain and continue to improve your QMS. The ISO9001 certification comes along. This certificate should really not make any difference.

But it should! Whether a client gets their CB to participate in improvements, uses CB findings to drive the organization to mature their QMS, or customers auditors spend less time auditing, or the QA Mgr spends less time filling out supplier assessment questionnaires - it should make a difference! Otherwise, why would it be (still) popular? Not just for the certificate on the wall...:agree1:
