Rachel

Following a similar line of thought (what can I say - I'm horribly unoriginal - is that a word?)...

What do you listen to? :singtome: :rar:
Music? Genres? Artists? Albums?

I'm going to let others take a crack at this first. I'm a music junkie, above all other forms of entertainment, and could write about this for hours.....but I'm interested to hear what other music buffs are into these days. :nopity:

(Okay, so that wasn't the original intent of the emoticon...whatever works!)

Cheers,
-R.

Well, Rachel, this isn't what you want to hear, but I generally only listen to TALK radio (usually NPR) - or oldies if I find them, but my son, who is about your age likes Dave Matthews.

"Talk" keeps me awake when I'm driving whereas music tends to put me to sleep

Also, I have a hearing (should I call it impediment/learning disability), but I can't understand words when mixed with music or other background noise. Accents are a problem for me too!

On the way to and from work, I listen to news just long enough for the weather (I take back roads, so traffic doesn't interest me). Once that is over, I either switch to a local Christian station, or just listen to the birds. At home it is either the local Christian station, or Christian CDs. I've about worn out my Randy Travis CD.

It's totally mood dependent with me...and as a very special person likes to point to me....one never knows where the wheel of moods will stop with me. :o

I apologize now, though, for spelling errors in their names...I like the music, but don't memorize their names all of the time...

Linkin Park - turn up the bass, pop open the sun roof, crank down the windows and let the speakers announce my presence to everyone within a 2km radius. :D

Evanescence - "Bring Me Back to Life" came at a pivotal time in my life and reminded me not to lose myself in the darkness. Granted, I wish I hadn't seen them in concert...their warm-up act (Finger 11) was better.

Queen - Between hearing "We Will Rock You" at hockey games and crooning along with "Radio Ga Ga", they had to make the list.

Toby Keith - Okay, I'm a country fan, too. "Who's Your Daddy", "What About Me?", "How Do You Like Me Now", "I Love This Bar" and "Hot Mamma" are the best!

Mindy McReady - But I think she only had one CD...her song "Guys Do It All The Time" was the anthem for many women I know.

80's - I'm an 80's kid..."Eye of the Tiger", "99 Luftballoons", "Bette Davis Eyes", "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "Final Countdown"....as soon as I hear the opening chords, I'm singing along! You outta see my air guitar solo to "Queen of Hearts"!

Natural music - CD's from Africa and North and South America...tribal and earthy...able to get in touch with your inner being (if it's not too busy dancing).

Opera - The very first operas I saw was when I was 16 and living in Berlin, Germany. "The Barber of Seville" and "The Marriage of Figaro" (in German) captured my fascination and tickled my funny bone...I kept thinking of Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.

Anastacia - A little funk, a little pop, a little blues....and one heck of a voice!

Star Trek - Got most of the soundtracks packed away somewhere.

Dixie Chicks - I need to be an unusual mood to listen to them or else their voices will grate on me.

Soundtrack to "Cruel Intentions" and "Days of Thunder" - Awesome driving CDs...especially "Cruel Intentions". Not too fast, some bass, and lyrics that you can bop along with.

Bon Jovi - Love his music, love his hair!

Marc Anthony - His song "I Need You" carries a lot of fond memories with me.

Jarvis Church - Canadian and got his name from spending his youth on Jarvis and Church Streets in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Didn't like him the first time I listened to his CD...but by the end of the second time around, I was hooked!

There are so many others, too...I could on and on here....

Likewise, but in a different way...I pick them up waaaaay to easily! A few days in Georgia and a few my friends back home refused to speak with me until I was "talking normally" again!

When I visit our Tampa, Florida office, I usually leave saying words like "hack-key" (instead of "haw-key"), "ruff" (instead of "rue-ph"), and "dah-lar" (instead of "dawl-er").

Of course, I'm still easily pointed out as being the lone Canuck...I'm able to maintain my pronounciation of "proh-cess". :D

When I came home from Germany, I was speaking English with a German accent...annoyed my father to no end...but I was there for a while, it was only natural!

And when our last auditor from our Registrar showed up...well....put me in a room with her and our QC Manager....I'd pass for a person from Edinburgh, Scotland!

To the other Canadians in the Cove, you'll understand this part....used to work with two men from Newfoundland....enough said....

My favorite of all time is Elvis Presley. Other music I listen to:

Godsmack
Dean Martin
Louie Prima
Frank Sinatra
Lou Monte
Kidrock
Alice Cooper
Rob Zombie
Sammie Davis Jr.

I guess just about anything except Country and Rap.

Here's a few

Maynard Furgeson, Don Ellis Orchestra, Tony Bennett, Styx, Chicago, Led Zep, The Who, Paco DeLucia, Mother's Finest, Molly Hatchet, John Hyatt, T-Bone Burnett, Stevie Ray Vaughn. Pretty much anyone who has chops, and can play/sing.

I still have my albums, all 15 feet or so of them, and lots of CDs.

The only audible art form (if you want to call it that, I usually have other words)that I just cannot stand is that junk called rap.

Variety is the spice of life....

A wide variety, listed by increasing orders of 'amplitude':

Jazz / Blues / Contemporary - Diana Krall, Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr. - good dinner music

Soft Rock - Phil Collins, Amanda Marshall, Elton John, Sting - office music

Classic Rock - Zepellin, Pink Floyd, Rush, Lyndyrd Skynyrd - weekend music

Harder Rock / Metal - Ozzy Osbourne (all-time best), Metallica, Van Halen, Guns 'N Roses, Tragically Hip - driving music, to keep me awake

I also like various classical music, Scottish music, pretty much anything but Country (sorry folks, I just don't get it).

Oh, and Roxanne, "Lord tunderin' Jesus, I know whatchyer tinkin' and I has to agrees wit ya!!!"

Sting - good!...as for the song "Roxanne", my only consolation is that my name is not spelled that way.

Rush - how could I forget them?

How about Def Leppard?

Ugh....now you've gone and done it..."We's be walkin' down de road, side by each, my little trout."

Likes: Classic rock, country (but usually not western), jazz, blues, big band, reggae (once in awhile), disco (only one CD), just a little rap (Fat Boys or Will Smith only), Christian rock, Southern rock, gospel, news radio (not talk radio), classical music.
