I can not read enough!

Douglas Adams: His Hitchhiker's Guide series is still my favorite. I am looking forward to the movie.
The BBC TV series HHGTTG has been available on DVD for some time. I have a copy as well as the BBC's audio tape set, released many years ago after the actual broadcast in the late 1970s.

If there is a movie in preparation, I will certainly see it. As we "Guide" devotees well know, for whatever posted questions that might appear on the Cove, the short answer and best solution is, of course, "42".

Hi all,

Just finished 'The Broker' by John Grisham. I love his writing and character development. The plot was a little different from his usual but it was still an enjoyable read.

Wilbur Smith has a new book due in Australia in April 'The Triumph of the Sun'. I cannot wait. I have read all of his books numerous times and have the full collection. In this book the 'Ballantynes' meet the 'Courtneys'. If you don't know Smith, these two families are the basis of two great series about the history of Africa from the European settlement perspective. Boers, Pirates, Miners, Diamonds, Gold, Hunters, Wildlife, Slavers, Fortunes, Fortunes Lost, Arab traders, Tall Ships, Warriors, Soldiers, Women, Kings, Prime Ministers, Wildnerness, Adventure....I'm a bit of a romantic.

I'm sorry, I had my towle over my head when you replied! I have the original TV series on tape. It is so bad that it is good! Worthy of becoming a cult classic. The death of Douglas Adams will leave a void in sci-fi humor that will not be easily filled. I cannot think of another series of books that I have recommended so highly.

You are coming through loud and clear and I do not need my babelfish to understand your sentiments! :) But, it is rather early in the morning for this reply as all the diodes in my left side are not so good today. :nope:

Hi All,

Just finished reading Dan Brown's 'Digital Fortress' and did not really think much of it when compared to 'Da Vinci Code' and 'Angels and Demons'. I mean the TANKODA vs NDAKOTA reference stumped the best Crypto people in the world (I think not). Little old me worked it out as soon as I saw it. I think he was really reaching with this novel.
Just started 'Deception Point' yesterday and I hope it is a good read (seems OK so far). Roxane thought I was a slow reader ;).

I'll need to go out with the list I have made from this thread and buy some new books. My library is filling fast. Thanks everyone for the great references.

I've been on a Dan Brown junket recently, that is until I read Digital Fortress. What a poor book. It seemed so derivative of poorly plotted action movies/ novels. I told my husband one night that it reminded me of any Robert Ludlum novel set in the Men in Black movie. Please tell me whether Deception Point is any better. Also, what do other Covers think of Tom Hanks being cast as Mr. Langdon for the DaVinci Code movie? can he pull it off?

WALLACE

If Tom hanks pulls this one off, I would be very surprised.
I still think of him as being a comedic actor, he is extremelly skilled though.
I would have cast Harrison Ford or Sean Connery: the part (In the book) speaks of maturity and has a distinguished air to it.
Wallace.

I thought of Harrison Ford also, probably from the Indiana Jones series' impact on my life:) I can definitely picture Tom Hanks doing the, "what the heck is going on here?" aspect of the character. But the rest of it? I keep thinking of Woody from Toy Story trying to save Private Ryan. Hmmm.

My initial response when they announced the movie was for Russell Crowe. I just don't think Tom Hanks will pull the character off, but let's hope so.....

Zarkingfarquwards! That had to be the longest string of references I've ever seen! :bonk: Let's just go down to the pub and find a nice spot in front of the first bulldozer we see, J Allan J. :agree1:

If you are looking for more D. Adams type of reading, I would suggest "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman. Actually, any of Terry Pratchett's books would fill the bill.

So long, and thanks for the fish!
