Hi,

A QA plan or Inspection & Test plan usually involves outlining the different steps required within the project and indicating where are the control points ( inspections, reviews, etc...)

The client wants to see this plan in order to know if you understand the work to be done and to ensure that there will be controls in place.

I hope this answers your question.

Gasmundsson,

Our Quality Plan is called our Quality Business plan. Each Department has their own plan and they are tied to the overall Company Business plan. My plan covers such things as:

Business Description (what do we do)
Business Environment (Culture, Location etc)
Vision (statement)
Key Objectives (Dot Points)
Key Issues (Expand on the individual Key Objectives and the issues that confront them)
Key Actions/Initiatives and Plan (How do we overcome the barriers to the Key Objectives and Issues, Who will action them and by when)
Primary Key Performance Indicators (What are we to achieve and how do we measure this?)
Key Risks (What are the Risks asscoaited with implementing this plan? are they controllable? What is the potential Impact? andhow do we plan to combat or controll them?)

Key Objectives include:
Exceed internal & customer expectations
Effective quality policy, standards & procedures
Strong, demonstrated line management commitment & leadership
clear well defined line management responsibility & accountability
Relevant & effective quality & risk management training & competency assessment
Comprehensive Quality investigation, reporting & close out
Effective communication & motivation
Effective inspections, audits & reviews
Effective contractor management
Linkling Business Processes

From this list we developed actions and initiatives. For example, in 'Effective Quality Policy, Procedures & Work Instructions' there are 4 actions:
Review Policy
Establish Quality Steering Committee
Review/Streamline QMS procedures
review Work instructions & forms

These have all been assigned to a manager or group and have a date that they are to be completed and a Measure (KPI), for instance, the KPI for Review Policy is that the Policy is to be Developed and Implemented.

This is all simple stuff when you look at it and much of it will be in next years plan and the next etc but it is documented, communicated, understood and acted upon by all necessary parties. We have a plan of attack for Quality and the business. I hope this helps. I cannot post the Plan as it has some sensitive material.

I could possibly send you the blank template with the headings

Greg may be right or Danny may be right. But the customer knows for sure. ASK YOUR CUSTOMER what, specifically, they want. It could be they are asking for your Quality Policy Manual (that's what most customers ask for when requiring a supplier to comply with ISO) or a unique product quality plan. So don't waste valuable energy; ask them for specifics, get back with us at the Cove, and we'll help from there.

Yeah, are we talkin' product planning? I assumed so when you said "trying to get a big project" and your customer stated "and subcontractors".

However, they may be interested in your timeframe for registration in order to justify approving a "not yet registered" supplier.
