PinPin,

Production parts are used to build new automobiles.
Service parts are produced for aftermarket purposes and are used by repair centers, dealerships, etc.

Dear Stijloor,

Manufacturers that reconditioned parts that have been used from vehicles qualify to apply for TS certification?

If a manufacturer making service parts (and supply to normal private car repair/service workhops that not belong to real car manufacturer) that were not authorised by any car manufacturers, can this manufacturer apply for TS certification?

I heard that the manufacturer must make parts that are to supply to a car manufacturer that is a member of IATF or subscribed (what this mean?) to TS Standard, can then apply for TS certification, is it correct?

THANK YOU ! :thanks::thanx:

Dear Stijloor,

No, not unless their customer requires it. I see that as very unlikely.

No, not very likely.

Yes, subscribers to ISO/TS 16949:2002, require their suppliers to be certified to this standard.

IATF (Vehicle Manufacturers) Members are:
  • BMW Group
  • Chrysler LLC
  • Daimler AG,
  • Fiat Group Automobiles
  • Ford Motor Company
  • General Motors Corporation (including Opel Vauxhall)
  • PSA Peugeot-Citroen
  • Renault
  • Volkswagen AG

A "subscriber" may be a manufacturer of: Truck, bus and motorcycle.
An example of a "subscriber" could be Volvo Truck.

Hope this helps.

THANK YOU ! :thanks::thanx:

Dear Stijloor,

That means a factory supplying to vehicle manufacturers that do not subscribe to TS cannot apply to TS certification ?

Toyota and Honda were not listed, that means being thier subcontractor cannot certify to TS?

Dear Stijloor,

That means a factory supplying to vehicle manufacturers that do not subscribe to TS cannot apply to TS certification ?

It starts with the customer. If you have an automotive customer that does not require ISO/TS (Honda, Toyota and others), why should an automotive supplier organization pursue ISO/TS certification?

Toyota and Honda were not listed, that means being their subcontractor cannot certify to TS?

They can if they have other automotive customers that would require ISO/TS certification. I have clients that supply to a wide variety of automotive customers. Some of their customers do not require ISO/TS. But because others do, they decided to become ISO/TS certified. Please keep in mind that ISO/TS certification is initiated with a requirement by the customer.

You're welcome!
