What is the total cost of ISO 9001:2000 Registration in terms of $$$?

I’m talking about a company with about 38 permanent employees and 200 temps. Let’s not count the hours worked by employees on ISO but the external expenses for registration, audits, auditors, standards, etc. etc.

How about in your company? How much did it cost you?

I agree with some of the costs posted by Boscoeee, but not all. Pre-assessment if you have implemented correctly should not cost more than the registration audit and surveillance audits are annual at least for 9001:2008 and AS9100. Generally expect $1000-$1200 per auditor day for outside services. As a single man company with 2 day surveillance audits my cost was about $3600 for initial registration and $2400 year for surveillance audits. An 85 person manufacturing company I know of had 5 days with 2 auditors for their latest surveillance audit. Do not forget that non conformances are charged over and above the time on site at least a $100/hr to respond to by the auditor. It is better to write yourself up and work on it prior to audit.

238 employees would typically be 2.0 - 2.5 audit days per year for surveillance. The temp employees and salaried employees must be counted as employees. Not clear about the comment about preassessments. Typically, preassessments would be 1 or 1.5 days.
