What shall we do on Engineering Drawing mentioned in APQP

1. What is exact definition on Engineering Drawing?

One customer give us one CAD drawing about wiring harness when we have no design responsiliblity. Only what the customer attend such as shape of connector was defined in drawing. The color of connector is not defined. Does such CAD drawing be considered as customer's Engineering Drawing mentioned in APQP?

In the example mentioned above, if we also make one more particular CAD drawing for this wiring harness, does both drawing be considered as Engineering Drawing mentioned in APQP.

We design a part when we have design responsilibility. We design a CAD drawing for this part. Does such CAD drawing be considered as our Engineering Drawing mentioned in APQP?

2. What shall we do on Engineering Drawing in APQP

We have one excel form which name is "Engineering Drawing Validation". Do you have such similar form?

We are confuse how to roundly fill this form. This form include fields of validation item, drawing number, customer's requirement to product quality/technology, organization's requirement to product quality/technology, validation result.

Whose Engineering Drawing must been validated?

Who shall validate Engineering Drawing, customer or organization or both?

Yes. This is customer's Engineering Drawing mentioned in APQP. It would even be considered customer's engineering drawing if it were crayon on a napkin. The sufficiency of information in the drawing is not as important as the intent (what you probably meant by "attend") of the customer to tell you what he wants. If you have to ask questions and add notes to be sure you understand ALL customer's requirements, then you have a duty to get some sort of acknowledgement from customer, preferably in writing, that those notes are also his intent.

Yes. Same as answer above. Try to get written acknowledgement from customer that he agrees your drawing agrees with his intent.

I think so.

I'm not sure of an answer to this part of your question at this moment. Perhaps one of the other Cove members can help.

Is this form a timetable type form that you received from the customer, there could be requirements that you do not have to perform, if you are mot dedsign responsible then you do not need for example DFMEA but it typically appears on the form
This item whould appear to be a checklist for you when you r4eceive the drawing to ensure that you do the correct actions.
Please post it so we can see the context.

Here is the form

Thanks all.

Here is the form.
This form is offered by consultant who can not tell us clearly.
Sometime the consultant tell us we must fill this form and other time he tell us not to do.
He never tell us clearly how to fill it.

As I see it this form is a manner of showing how you documented the inputs and verified/validated them.
As the requirements of 7.3 design control are to be complied with for design of process and you need to show that you have the inputs and have verified the outputs this would be a way of documenting this.
It is to have a single document to show that the stages have been performed

That is my guess.
If the form does not help then dont use it

Thank you, Howard.
I want to consult more.

I had read page 156 in APQP_Q.pdf downloading from this site.
This page refer to "Customer and Supplier Engineer Drawing".

Below is the original content of this page:
"
Customer or Supplier Engineering Drawings
(including math data)
• Review for special and/or critical characteristics
• Review controlling drawings when engineering drawings
are nonexistent
• Review drawings for:
Dimensions for form, fit, function, durability, government S&R
Control or datum surfaces/locators for function gages and
equipment
Feasibility/compatibility with industry standards
• Compatibility of math data with two-way communications
(Written waivers acceptable)
"

Who is supplier here, organization? or the supplier of one organization?
What form is represented when I do those work mentioned this page especially on Engineering Drawing?

The drawings can come from both sides.
You need to review them for these criteria. You should document that you have reviewed themn on a form or areport of a meeting.
Please adapt this to your use, there is no absolute in this.

Hi Yundm & Others,

I'm looking to develop a validation form that demonstrates where I obtained dimensional values from various data resourses. Yundm, it appears that you may have an Excel version that I may use a template or create variation of it. What's APQP?

If you wouldn't mind, could you submit your template?

Thanks for the assistance.

Welcome to the Cove. :bigwave:

Yundm hasn't logged in here since shortly after initiating this thread, but he/she did post an attachment further up the thread, which might be what you're looking for.

"APQP" stands for "Advanced Product Quality Planning" and is the American automotive industry standard for what its name suggests. The APQP manual may be purchased from AIAG.
