What should a Quality Plan Include and Examples

Hi all,

First of all, first visit to the site for some time and I sure have missed reading all the conversations.

Secondly, I'd like to ask everyone's opinions on Quality Plans.

What should they include, who is the target audience for the plan and if anyone has any examples they would be willing to share it would be greatly appreciated.

You may get many answers on this. Is this for a particular project or for the business (for which I do not see a need) but for me, a quality plan is about describing:

  • what processes are going to apply to the project
  • the limitations and exclusions to those processes
  • what inspections are going to be done
  • what is good product and what is not
  • what data is going to be selected from what points, to measure and monitor the product characteristics that are to be measured or monitored
  • what is the extent of traceability to be applied to the project
  • what reports are going to be produced and to whom will they be communicated
  • what skills sets are required, what are the gaps and what is to done about those gaps
  • what is the communication plan for the project
  • how often will reviews be held and what will be reviewed
  • what audits will done and at what frequency.
Perhaps others may add to this list for you.

1. Your first stop should be ISO 10005 Quality management systems -- Guidelines for quality plans

Abstract

ISO 10005:2005 provides guidelines for the development, review, acceptance, application and revision of quality plans. It is applicable whether or not the organization has a management system in conformity with ISO 9001.

ISO 10005:2005 is applicable to quality plans for a process, product, project or contract, any product category (hardware, software, processed materials and services) and any industry. It is focused primarily on product realization and is not a guide to organizational quality management system planning.

ISO 10005:2005 is a guidance document and is not intended to be used for certification or registration purposes.
2. As others had rightly point out, what is the specific purpose of the plan - there are various types as outlined in the abstract.
