What should be changed in the ISO 9001:2015 Standard?

The point of unannounced audits is to see if you are doing what you say you do all the time or only on the days you expect the auditors to be there and more importantly to understand the true operational practices of the site.
If you have to do unannounced audits to determine this, the company has bigger problems than whether employees are "always" doing what they are supposed to be doing.

And - If the company needs unannounced internal audits to "...understand the true operational practices of the site..." the same is true - The company has bigger problems than anything unannounced internal audits will reveal.

Unannounced audits are never acceptable in my opinion.

Standards do not require unnanounced audits. The premise of the standards is that people will do what they say. If not, there's nothing a standard can do. Also, standards are voluntary, which means that if people do not want to follow the standards, they dont.

Unnanounced audits are related to certification, and even more, to regulatory requirements, which have a total different objective from the standard themselves.

Now that the amendment of ISO 9001:2008 is done with, hopefully the TC 176 will have the courage to instill significant changes in the next revision of ISO 9001.

I thought we should start a thread so people could suggest possible changes to the standard. We have Cove members that participate in the US TAG and can convey (should they agree) our collective requests.

In my opinion, certain things need to be significantly revised.

The first one is preventive action. The TC 176 should re-phrase the requirements associated with preventive actions, so it can be meaningfully implemented in the real world. At present, the requirement is unclear and difficult to assess compliance against.

Another suggestion I have is for emphasis on process and system effectiveness. 8.2.3, for example, is completely disregarded by many organizations.

Quality economics, a.k.a cost of quality and mandatory review during management reviews is another candidate in my book.

Other ideas?
Thanks, Sidney, for the opportunity to offer my opinion on what should be changed.

I also agree with quite a few of my colleaques in the fact that "top management" should be defined more clearly...such as "executive management"...the movers and shakers within a company that can provide resources to make things happen.

That being said I also think that the Technical Committee should address the maintenance process and clarify the preventative maintenance aspect of this process.
Everyone knows that Preventative Maintenance of equipment and infrastructure is a good business practice...but there are no definitive requirements for this in the current version.
Correct me if I am wrong about this.
