I would appreciate suggestions of what should be on a Quality Open Items Register?
Sounds like a localized term to me. Had not hear it being used over here. It would be helpful if you could let us know what these 'open items' are?

Thanks for your response, Ajit. This is a requirement in an oil and gas contract. I consider all the usual quality items that you mention would certainly be required. However I feel the Client may wish for the Quality Manager to follow up on other items such as schedule, Client complaints, etc, that may be oustanding. I was hoping that someone may have had a similar requirement in the contract and would have some knowledge of what the Client normally requires. I would also appreciate ideas based on quality principles.

It looks like a customer specific term - why not contact the customer and get clarification? You don't want to guess, put in a bunch of stuff you don't need, because someone may like it and want to see it continued - forever.

If I had to guess, I'd think it was a log of the items issued BY THE CUSTOMER to the QA Manager for action. Think formal CA/PA requests.

Your customer may be thrilled that your register is blank. I'm sure they have some problem suppliers who take a lot of time.

Again - that is just a guess. Ask your customer.

Thank you all for your helpful responses. I realise that I will have to discuss with the Client, however I was hoping for an idea from someone who had worked with or heard of the term before I approach the Client. If there are any oil and gas people out there who have heard of the term, I would much appreciate your information. Failing that I intend to go with a list of open quality issues such as NC, CA, etc. I have this fear that they may want the quality manager to handle all issues, including design and construction. Not a good way to go unless authority is adequate. I will let you know what the Client finally requested.
