i have question about what should i do after i received calibration certificate?
i'm still confused. all this time when i calibrated the equipment ex: pH meter, i only see the data. if the calibration result still in tolerance limit, i still used the equipment. and if the result is out of tolerance limit i just fixed it (after i fixed it, im not recalibrate it again).:truce:
thank you

'Receiving the certificate' is only one point in (what should be) the procedure.

Recall: key point is you want to be sure that whatever equipment you are using to measure is accurate. If it isn't, you need to check if that has had any negative impacts (eg, NC in products/tests etc) and do something about it where necessary.

  • Is the certificate complete? (ie, signed off, quotes relevant clause, etc)
  • What was the calibration result? ie, does the cert say it was in tolerance, or out? (I've seen staff simply take the certificate and file it without even looking at it, much less reading it - never a good idea)
  • If out of calibration, what happened to any product tested during the period it was out of calibration? You say 'i just fixed it' - what do you mean? What 'it' did you 'fix'? Is this part of your procedure? Do the records show what you did? etc.

Re: Calibration - Clause 7.6 of ISO 9001:2000 - Is all this necessary?

Dear Jane,
the mean "i just fixed it" is that ie, the balance is out of tolerance then i have to fix the balance and after that i verified it with weight calibrator. my question is should i calibrated it again?
and my other question also when i received the calibration data, what should i do?
thank you

You calibrate equipment so you can have confidence in the readings. If during calibration you find it exceeds the tolerance, yet you have it adjusted. But, you should do an investigation and determine if the magnitude of error would have adverse effects on the process.

Next, you should "watch" that equipment that failed calibration. You may need to perform checks on it a little more often. Or, many times instruments fail calibration due to improper use/storage/handling.

After repair, you should always check equipment immediately after calibration, and preferably in short intervals after the adjustment to assure there is no shifting occurring.

Not sure that answered your question or not. Feel free to re-post if your question was not covered.

BTW... Thanks for dropping by the Cove! :)
