Just a gripe on 60601-1, with respect to understanding it. We are now on the third edition of this very long document. However, a related standard - ISO 10079-1:2009 (Medical Suction Equipment) is based on IEC 60601-1:1988 – and you have to use it in conjunction with this obsolescent (first) version. How crazy is that?

Here's my list of useful 60601 references. In the end I got the best advice from the test lab. They saw what other devices were being certified to and had a good understanding of each part.
