What's your Best/Worst Military Movies?

I thought with so many ex military types amongst us I would find out what their Best and Worst Military movies are. This is of course not limited to ex military.

My best recent movies would be 'We were Soldiers' and 'Saving Private Ryan'. My most hated is 'Top Gun'. I'm sorry but there are only so many times they can fly a jet with no missiles and then fire off five in the next scene. There are so many glaring mistakes in this movie  . I have a top ten but would like to see what others think especially those of you from the good 'Ol US of A (as most of them were made in the US)

Only the good ones stick

Full Metal Jacket
Apocalypse Now
Platoon
We Were Soldiers
I think the name is "Courage Under Fire" with Meg Ryan and Denzel Washington.
Officer and a Gentleman.
Hunt for Red October
Das Boat

Oh Greg, there are many many more, but to me these are some classics that I can watch again and again. My favorite line is from Full Metal jacket. The reporters are asking the machine gunner strafing peasants in the rice fields from the side door of the helicopter how could he shoot women and children. His answer? "Heck, that's easy. You just don't lead them as much". But, I'm not well. :vfunny:

Platoon
We Were Soldiers
Tears of the Sun (been throught something very similar)
Hamburger Hill
Hunt for Red October (Fly Dallas, fly)
Pearl Harbor

My most hated must be any of the Delta Force movies or the "straight to video" Navy Seals movies.

As a kid I really loved to watch Rat Patrol. Does anyone remember this, I have been trying to find this on one of the classic channels. Movies there are several, but the one that had the most meaning ( not rating acting abilities) would be "Born on the 4th of July".

SteelWoman

Saving Private Ryan (I can't even watch the opening two minutes of that without bawling!)
Hunt for Red October (yes, before you accuse me of it, I primarily love it 'cause Sean Connery is the hottest male on EARTH!)
I have the complete set of "Band of Brothers" waiting for me to have like 12 hours with nothing else to do to watch - I'm actually looking forward to it, hear it is excellent. Anyone else seen it - the whole thing?

Hard to Define - There are so many different ways to break it down. Just for starters:
Tora Tora Tora - Great
In Harms way - John Wayne and Patricia Neil
Dam Busters - British
Saving Private Ryan - Most Accurate Battle Scenes

All Time worst
Midway - There is a grat story here, but they screwed it up.

Some I won't watch
Pearl Harbor - leaps to mind - Tora*3 is the ONLY PH movie.

Probably have more later

Enemy at the Gates
Sniper & Sniper 2 - Tom Berenger
Guns of Navarone
Full Metal Jacket ("7.62mm full metal jacket")
The Great Escape - Steve McQueen was the greatest!
Saving Private Ryan - Was hoping that someone would shoot that little weasel that was carrying the ammo bandaliers.
Pearl Harbor - Yeh, I'm a romantic.
Das Boot - Cried at the end (told you I'm a romantic :) )
We Were Soldiers
And so many more it's hard to stop...

I haven't seen Sniper 2, I really liked the 1st one and was concerned that 2 would be a bummer.

James,
They did a very good job on PH, Tora 3 was good.

The only problem I had with Sniper 2 was that Tom Berenger's character at one point picks up a Russian Mosin-Nagant 91/30 and refers to it as a German Mauser, which has more than a bit of irony to it considering what was going on in St. Petersburg/Stalinburg at the time.

How about Enemy at the Gate and Widowmaker? Both fairly recent, and low-budget as well, I believe. Said to be based on true stories, they are both excellent, IMO.
