When is the ISO 9001 Surveillance Audit? Certification process for ISO9001:2000

hi, all.
i have some doubts about the certification process for ISO9001:2000.
My company is certified on Nov'2006. how can i know when is the surveillance audit? Will the audit scope cover the entire system during the surveillance audit? then, when shall be the re-assessment audit? i have totally no idea about this... i only can remember that there will be 2 times of surveillance audit then follow by re-assessment audit.. =(
besides, any hints for me to prepare for the surveillance audit?

The audit cycle is typically 3 years before recertification, so it sounds like your registrar has you on an annual surveillance schedule. If your certification audit was in November 2006, then your next surveillance audit should be around November 2007. Call your registrar and they should be able to answer any questions you have.

Surveillance audits will not be full system audits, but all of the surveillance audits combined should cover the whole system. Each surveillance audit should cover management review, internal audit, corrective/preventive action, and several other processes of your system. Your registrar should let you know in advance what the audit schedule will be, and what processes will be audited.

If your system is working well you shouldn't have to prepare for the audits. Your internal audits should be good practice for the surveillance audits.

Your first action should be to find whatever paperwork your registrar left behind at the conclusion of the registration. That might give you a clue. If not, then you should contact the operations management of your registrar and find out from them what their plan is for your account. They should have an idea what's planned and when it's going to be done. They might even know who is assigned as the auditor.

If you don't have any further luck getting this information, then I'd strongly suggest changing registrar!!

My previous employment was with one of the top 5 CBs and it was policy/procedure to let the client know exactly what was going to be covered at each subsequent visit. Normally, as Howste says, they audit the management key indicators he described, plus any changes in the system. They might detect potential weaknesses in the system and advise this to be looked at in the next visit. They should also cover things like customer satisfaction and some mundane things like use of accrediation logos, to make sure you're not putting "ISO Certified" on stuff (brochures etc.) for parts of the organization which isn't in your QMS.

If you want, why not have someone come in an check to make sure everything's O.K.? True, your internal audits should help to prepare, but only if they're any good - and you can bet they will be drilled by the registrar.....
