Shows how much your auditor knows ... That is the purpose of the cove - to exchange information that cove participants have from their jobs (thanks Sid! :bigwave: )to enable you to put your auditor right. :lol:

Now you're scaring me! :mg: If this is the standard of advice coming from a reputable CB then we really are in trouble.

If I were you I would go back to SGS and ask them to confirm this in writing ... and post the reply on the cove. I haven't had a good laugh since Icy Mountain told me about translating real language into "AuditorSpeak" .... oh, that was only yesterday .. another senior moment! :bonk:

How interesting. Particularly when we consider the fact that neither ISO 9000 nor 9001 mentions major, minor and all that jazz in their current versions... :read: I seriously doubt that that particular can of worms will be opened in the coming issues.

I attribute this to the individual and the lack of professionalism on the part of many of these people. They do not realized that as a professional, they have an image to uphold and that they have a duty of continual learning/upgrading in order to provide up to date quality service to their clients.

The big boys (over here) do provide updates and information to their auditors through seminars, training, news letter and others. What about those working for the smaller CBs? - Especially the franchised ones.

This must be the best forum and resource around and yet I do not detect their presence (of our fellow country men - auditors) here in significant numbers. Maybe they are lurking in the dark. No wonder quite a number ended up like the ignorant guy mentioned by the OP.

Most 3rd party auditors believe that their clients are totally ignorant about issues such as the developments of the ISO 9000 family of Standards. So, it is quite common for them to prey on this ignorance and state "ISO-blasphemies" right and left, without being challenged. The net and resources such as The Cove should assist in keeping these people honest "straight".

Agree with you paul. :agree:

but on the other side, we have to admit that they were (CB's) the only resource of info when we don't have such great forums.
I now get such great experiences summarized in very good way.

A new edition of ISO 9001, the world's most widely used quality management system standard, is being submitted for voting as a Final Draft International Standard and, subject to formal approval by the ISO membership, the publication of the revised version should be in the October-November 2008 time frame
