Hi, I have some confusion regarding which AMD of the 60601-1 general standard to follow,

For our device, the specific standard is IEC 60601-2-39:2018 now this standard asks us to follow IEC 60601-1:2005 and IEC 60601-1:2005/AMD1:2012 (see pic below)

Which AMD of 60601-1 to follow

now what I have in possession is the most latest version with (second Amendment as well of the 60601-1) which is IEC 60601-1:2005+AMD1:2012+AMD2:2020 CSV,
see picture below
Which AMD of 60601-1 to follow

Now the question is, can I follow the latest version of the IEC 60601-1:2005+AMD1:2012+AMD2:2020 CSV, or do I have to go and buy IEC 60601-1:2005 and IEC 60601-1:2005/AMD1:2012.

In theory it should be 2012 version of 601-1, but no one will worry if you use the later 2020 version.

The reason this is unlikely to be an issue is that most of the content in particular standards is "additional" or "delete" rather "modifying", and the 2020 amendment to 601-1 is more housekeeping than radical changes, so the chances of conflicting modifications is remote, and even if it did occur, the intention is usually clear for all parties involved, not the type of thing that would create an argument.

In case of conflict, priority should be given to -2-39:2018 with the old text from the 2012 version of 601-1. Even then the newer version should be considered in risk management, if the point of contention is safety related, for example, a tightening of a limit in response to known market incidents (I don't believe there are any such cases, but theoretically could be).

Agree with Peter. In EN versions there is a statement: "For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies."
