I was reading an article today on personal branding and there was a healthy section devoted to maintaining a social media presence. It also advocated that you show a "balance" of yourself. Consider TED Talks...many of the speakers provide a personal story, the pathos that draws the audience in and sets the stage for understanding the overall intent of the 18 or so minutes of a message.
Focusing on Twitter, the article I read - okay, my boss shared it with me by passing along her iPad and saying "Read this!" - from 'More' magazine stated that 80% of your tweets should be professional and 20% personal. It supports the belief that showing some emotional aspects of your, some vulnerability, will validate your status in the professional world...and shows there is more to you than your work - in other words, you're a well-rounded individual.
