Actually when i think of it, categorization is usually aimed at helping us understand things better, and easily refer to them, such as in product trees or work breakdown structures, its the association of similar thoughts based on their similarities and relations, however, when that gets in the way and becomes an obstacle to really understanding the subject matter, that's when we have to draw the line. Like for instance, when we stereotype people for easily understanding them, this may inadvertently lead to discrimination, overestimation or underestimation especially when stereotyping is based on heresay and urban legends, and such categorization may propagate across different circles just as the "documentation pyramid" did, or the "document types" or other common practices, and so being confused with the requirements or the actual objectives. The same situation occurs with this whole "Genre" thing regarding music, and trying to categorize it, which somehow seems to offend the makers of the music itself, probably because they don't want to limit people's reactions and expectations to a specific pre-set mold which might incidently cut off pieces from the truth which is created by each person independently.
Just wanted to share my thoughts on that.
