Which team will win the 2006 Football (Soccer) world cup - Germany?

I see the women are ranked #2. I would think that is probably about right. Funny on the women's roster they show 'college' and on the mens they show 'club.' Maybe that's since women's professionsal soccer folded. Abby Wambach is from Rochester. Her sister was on my team, so she showed up one night a few years ago - (before any contracts were signed) and played with us. She was probably laughing inside at all us 'wannabes.'

I voted for France........the players that they have playing in various european clubs, namely Arsenals, have proved to be world class.

I think that may also be because women's soccer is supported more at the college level (Mia, et. al.). Because of the funding requirements for men's and women's sports at the college level, some of the less "traditional" sports, such as volleyball, gymnastics, and soccer, (in the U.S. anyhow) get more attention/funding for the women's programs.

I would not be sure how to go about researching this, though, so its just my opinion/conjecture.

I think your right. Plus a good HS player that gets a look from a pro team will take the offer before going to college, right? For women, that opportunity doesn't exist, so may as well take the scholarship and plan for the future?

The Netherlands looked extremely strong this weekend and if they keep their play at that level, they should be very strong contenders for winning the whole thing.

England was a little sloppy and will need to be careful of their next match with Trinidad. Trinidad is likely to have received a huge confidence boost after their performance against Sweden which could prove very dangerous to England.

The U.S. loss isn't surprising, but the 3-0 shutout should be very embarrassing.

I agree the Dutch look strong. Italy also looked impressive last night. I am a Brit so I will follow England all the way to the final.

As a big soccer fan and regular watcher of most of the European leagues, I am finding the quality of football being played rather poor.

We can finally see Brazil's first game tonight then we will see if they are cracked up to the hype.

I was disappointed with England's performance but happy with the result. Hopefully it means our form hasn't peaked too soon (it's bad news if it has).
I suppose there will be a sobering up period before we hear from any Australians. They've won a game of football and a game of rugby in the same week. This is history.

Hmm yes the Ozzies, 3 goals in 5 minutes! What were they doing for the previous 83 mins. Good to know both goal scorers learnt their skills in England.

OK England did take a thrashing on Sunday in the rugby.

Let's hope the Swiss can find the weaknesses in the French side tonight.

I need to disagree. The second half the Netherlands did not convince me. Serbia put up an extremely good fight and made the dutch I thought pretty ineffective. Same tonight with Brasil and Croatia. Croatia was the better team but was not lucky enough.

But there is still time enough for Brasil and Holland to prove their quality.

My hometeam (Germany) did not convince me against Costa Rica. Against a strong team like Argentina, Brasil, Craotia (remember 98?) they would have lost 4:0. Lets hope their defense gets their act together tomorrow :
