As per standard "Top Management" shall appoint a member of the organization's management as MR.

"Top Management = person or group of people who direct and controls an organization at the highest level

I Would like to hear, to whom the Management representative (Member of the organization's Management) need to be reported? (In a multi size / large size / medium size organization)

He need to report to TOP Management / group of people / at highest level? - what is defined as the highest level? - like example? -in an organization.

Is he need to be shown in the company organization structure? (As we know it is not a mandatory as per standard - generally how it is handled in a professional organizations.

IS MR given any additional credits! (Irrespective of other responsibility!)

Re: Management representative - reporting system

The standard says "reporting to top management on the performance of the quality management system and any need for improvement"
So who ever is the designated top management of the organization, he has the reporting responsibility about QMS performance and QMS improvements to them. May be the Plant GM, the CEO of the organization, To the board appointed as the management team, to the owner of the business if he manages his organization, etc;
The MR must be knowledgeable about the QMS requirements and a good and well spoken person who is friendly and respected by the lower ranks and top management, and who is professionally working well and closely with his peer group.
Nothing prevents you from pointing in the Org chart who the MR is, as s/he is formally appointed.
Credits .. ? you mean additional salary? It could always be taken up by the top management during the appraisal process.

Good luck if you are the MR or becoming one soon >>>

I have come across Organization that have to go a long way in giving due credits, leave alone additional.

Secondly, giving just MR the additional credits wouldn't be a constructive concept. Without the support of the entire Organization, it is impossible for a Person(MR) to show results.

At my old place of work our Quality Manager was the MR and I, as the ISO Coordinator was the fill-in. He was also a staff member and reported directly to the president as a staff member. This was a small company with under 500 people with two locations less than 5 miles apart.

What is the reality of MR position (appointment) and authority? More open views on this topic from other experts please.

How many of us hold MR position / previously and is DMR (Deputy) mandatory? (As per my info standard doesn’t calls for)

How much time are you spending (approximately) for the QMS (Daily/Weekly/Monthly) on holding MR position? (As additional responsibility)

Is there companies keep job rotation for MR position? Or Only Quality Manager holds MR position for life time! (QM/OEM – Organizational Excellence)

I disagree with Chennaiite for the statement “Without the support of the entire Organization, it is impossible for a Person (MR) to show results” – if MR has Top Management support, knowledge, responsibility, authority and power then he would get his support from every one.

You'd be better off believing in the Great Pumpkin than believing that statement as fact

Pardner, the questions your asking can't be answered to any specific degree. Why? Because each answer will only be relevant and applicable to the specific organization....There are no constants and there is precise way to quantify.

As for the MR and who he/she reports to, you have gotten that answer and it is specifically supplied in 9001 itself as was previously posted.

With due respects, thats an arbitrary statement IMO.

Still if you are willing to stand by it, I would say - the theory holds good for any other member in the Organization, for that matter. So why only MR would get the additional credits ?

Agree, but MR has an additional responsibility (Irrespective of other responsibilities) for the organization QMS.

I have always seen MR's as a Role. Invariably, there are so many such roles exist even if not explicitly defined in the Organization Structure - Meeting Co-ordinator, Training Co-ordinator, 5S Leader, Safety In-charge, so on - One or more of them depending on the magnitude of the Organization.

QMS ISO 9001 is a certification standard unlike other tools as you highlighted. In case of failure who will be the person pointed immediately? (In reality)

Is there companies keep job rotation for MR position? Or Only Quality Manager holds MR position for life time! (QM/OEM – Organizational Excellence)
