Part Variation (PV) in GR&R

Hello Guys,

Can somebody help me to understand what we measure and also why we measure the PV (part variation) in a GR&R study?

Any comment will be appreciated.

Thanks for any reply,
Arnulfo

Arnulfo,

The whole purpose of measurement process is to detect variation in parts produced. However, when you measure, the observed variation consists of variation in parts(which is what we want to know) as well as variations due to Appraisers, equipment, environment, methods, etc. (which are error components). With GR&R study we try to find the contribution by each of these variations. In the total variation oberved, the contribution of PV should be the highest. If the contribution due to error is high, then the measurement system is not suitable for that measurement.
