Will Ford accept AS9100 certification in place of ISO9001

Make sure Ford is not requiring TS16949 certification as well...
As a tooling company, they are not elegible for TS 46949. You need to be actively producing parts that end up in the assembly of new cars or trucks.

That's the beauty of AS9100. It is available for any company that wants something more robust than ISO 9001, but TS16949 is reserved for their own "club".

Gotcha!

Trust me...that's not a club you really want to be in...

Yes, we are a tooling company so we are only required to be ISO9001. I know that AS9100 has all the elements of ISO9001 with some extras clauses added (refer to Mikishots). Also, right on the cert it does say AS9100 / ISO9001. I just want to see if there is any documentation saying that Ford will accept AS9100 in the place of ISO9001.
All of our work is in the automotive area, we are just starting to get some defense work. I just want to make sure this is ok.

Two pertinent things, both of which were already mentioned.

You can request a certificate from your certification body that specifically includes ISO 9001 on it (and this is the most common way I see it, you may want to confirm with your certification body).

Ask Ford, as we can't answer for them.

I'm reasonably sure that you will not have any trouble.

That said, as a tooling company, I'm not sure that there is anything in the enhancements for AS9100 that would really do much to benefit you. Unless you can see the benefit, why spend the extra money?

Yes. AS9100 contains all the requirements of ISO9001 PLUS additional.

Re: Will automaker accept AS9100 cert in place of ISO9001

This appears to be a near duplicate of your earlier post.
Indeed. I merged the two threads into this one.

As for the OP's question, the only plausible reason for Ford NOT to accept the ISO 9001 certificate for this company would be if the certification scope had limitations that would be relevant.

For example, if the AS9100/ISO 9001 certificate for this organization read something like: "The Design, Manufacture, Installation, Commissioning and Servicing of Aerospace Tooling, Jigs and Fixtures"
In that case, the scope of certification is limiting itself to aerospace products; no guarantees that the certified QMS would also cover automotive tooling.

If the scope of certification is mute about this, one could assume that the whole range of products is covered.

Ford must have changed their attitude about certification. I have been out of automotive for a long while, but I remember we had QS9000 (yes a long time ago) and they still required us to get the Q1. As we were told then, Q1 is what we require and QS9000 is just to go along with the other Automotive companies.
