Windows 10 OS build Software Validation

Hello everyone - first time poster and looking for some insight.

We're running Win10 in our organization with many validated apps. Microsoft is releasing builds every 6 months and these builds can introduce new functionality, features, etc. I'd like to learn how other organizations are dealing with builds and their validated/high risk systems as far as determining impact. It seems unreasonable to assess all applications every 6 months. One idea we're tossing around is to create a 'test-bed' of applications with pre-determined tests. These pre-determined tests would get executed with new builds prior to releasing into production. Another option may be providing rationale explaining the risk with builds and not requiring any testing - thus, relying on an incident mgmt process to kick in if a problem is encountered. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks!

Both options have merit and so it boils down to how much risk you can take on. The canned test approach is probably best if risk is higher whereas the no action (other than to maybe document the fact that you recognize the change and concluded nothing needed to be done) may be defensible for low-risk applications. If you do the latter, you may want to support it with some analysis on OS dependencies.
