Definition Work Cell - Definition

Need a little help on this one...how do you define a work cell and/or a work line (line as in assembly line)?

I am interested in the difference related to employees no / separated operations no / etc....I am in a ruch right now...will be abck for more details in 1-2 hours.

Examples (each time is the same part)

1st

Bending / Drilling - operator no1 - 2 diff equip
Welding / Drilling / Welding - operator no2 - 3 diff equip
Welding - operator no 3 - 1 equip

2nd

Loading - operator no1 - 1 equip
Welding / Bending / Trimming - opearor no 2 - 3 diff equip
 
This is a dated thread, but here's how I would define them:

A product line is a progressive build. Each person does one operation in the build process and moves it on until it is complete.

A work cell is a self contained unit where a complete finished good is made, often by individual operators. The cell contains all the raw materials needed to build, KanBan carts supplied to the operators on a pull basis and final inspection or operator self-inspection. A cell is usually a lean operation, taking up less floor space and requiring less operator down-time.
