Re: Calibrate or verify a combination square
I was wondering if anyone could give me a work instruction for verifing a combination square. We use combo squares to check 90 degree angles and are spending a ton of money to get them calibrated outside. I want to do a verification in-house of all the tools that are verified and not calibrated. By this I mean tools that if found to be out of tolerance are thrown out since they cannot be changed. I can do the steel rule of the combo square but I do not know how to verify the 90 degree angle. We are a very small company but all of our shop guys have these squares. If someone could help that would be great.
Welcome to the Cove! Might I say you provided an excellent first post! It is really appreciated when relevant information is provided. Thanks!
What is the history on these squares? You may can extent the frequency. I would not see the 90 changing that often.
Are you paying for as found/ as left data? Could you get by without that information? Have you shopped around at competent labs to see if you can get a better deal?
Do you have any visual/comparator equipment? What kind of standards do you have in-place?
While this may be a cost you would prefer to avoid, in the end, it may benefit you sending them out to a qualified lab.
Just some thoughts.
