Writing a Customer Survey......Any tips?

Hi biboy

1) keep it simple.
Simple questions, simple words, simple grammar.

2) keep it short.
If it takes more than about 2 minutes to complete, find a way of shortening it.

3) try it out on a number of people before you use it.
If anyone has to read a question more than once to understand it, re-write the question.

Very well put. In keep it short, I really like to see them kept at three to five questions with a simple grading system. Find the three most critical topics you want to address.

Always include a line for their comments in case they have something on their mind (good or bad) that the questions either do not address or that they want to say more about.

Are you a call center?

What are your objectives?
We are not. We are a real estate developer. Our objectives are as follows:

Understand customers' requirements
To improve our customer service
To statistically evaluate the customer satisfaction/dissatisfaction level
To identify the current overall measure of customer satisfaction which can be monitored over time

If you plan on tracking the responses for measuring current status and identifying opportunities for improvement (metrics), I'd strongly advise against using open questions that can have text responses; they are notoriously problematic in that regard. Unless you have someone that can either remember the response when overall review is conducted (you do plan to review the responses as a group, right?) and can rank those responses, the survey becomes awkward.
