Hi All, Has anyone who represents ASQ ever responded to these conversations?
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but as I remember - Yes, and if I remember correctly one person was fired or demoted or something for posting here. Wes would probably remember. I forget the fellow's name.

I suspect Sidney has experienced something openly discussed throughout the various Sections - there seem to be a large number of "consultants" and consulting firms who have managed to worm their way into the hearts and minds of the entrenched bureaucrats to get themselves and their firms "anointed" by the ASQ HQ as the "go to" consultants for big and small corporations throughout the world.
The one time I went to a national ASQ convention, I was so disappointed by how many consultants and few inspection equipment reps were on the expo floor that I was not very anxious to spend the time or money to go to another. My preference is the Quality Expo...which, unfortunately but understandably, has abandoned the Novi, Michigan location.

I, on the other hand, have nothing but respect and praise for the ACTIVE members in the two Sections to which I belong.
I have to agree, the active members in the sections I have visited throughout Ohio, Michigan and Indiana have put their heart into trying to keep the section together - but companies have pulled their support of dues, and people have walked away from the section based on that leaving just the noble, overworked few. There are so many on the section roles that do not show up because they need the membership to keep the certifications, but are either buried at work or simply disenchanted with the whole thing.

Actually, over the past 6 or 7 years (when I alone (at first) and then in concert with my "Gang of Four," which grew to number about eight concerned and active ASQ members) tried mightily to prod the ASQ hierarchy into making the ASQ Forums as world class as the Cove Forums), we have seen the demise of more than five low to mid-level ASQ paid staffers who got fired or reassigned for daring to provide a peek behind the curtain at the top ASQ wizards.

Among other things, early on, Marc Smith (yes, our Marc) volunteered to help restructure the ASQ Forums at no charge and when his offer reached Borawski's desk, word came back down the chain of command that ASQ did not require the input of "amateurs."

The smart staffers saw the demise of those who tried to make the ASQ Forums helpful for members and put on the protective armor of bureaucrats everywhere - issues got referred to committees to die or to linger until any energy in the regular member trying to pursue the issue was just ground down.

Most disheartening of all were the succession of elected ASQ presidents who said they would "embrace" the issue and see that something got done only to repeat back the same bureaucratic gobbledygook and red tape they pledged to eliminate.

I still think I and my other senior colleagues have a lot to offer quality professionals throughout the world regardless if they are ASQ members or not. I sense, however, my extended "Gang of Four" is on the sideline licking their wounds after our most recent rebuff by the higher level ASQ paid staff.

Apparently the help of "amateurs" like Marc is exactly what they need, cuz their grossly overpaid "professionals" darn sure aren't getting the job done. :nope:

Wes, if I were king I'd vote you in for a term and watch what happened. :agree1:

Mike, if I were king I'd vote any rank and file member in there instead of what is there.

I cannot believe how insensitive ASQ has become to their members.

Brad, the members are ASQ. The decision makers, while collecting their paychecks from ASQ, certainly don't embrace the spirit of the organization. This discussion help me solidifying my decision of not renewing my membership next year. I don't want to be part of this massive dysfunction anymore.

Hello, I have read most of the comments that everyone has posted. There seems to be alot of negitive responses to ASQ. I always try to get as much info and understanding of quality. If ASQ does not do much for the Mfg inspectors or the (lower level) then how does improve the Quality sector. If there is not room for improvement (advancement) for the little guys then we loose interest just like anyone else. I have been coming to the Cove every since I was told about Forum. And I greatful for all the info I receive from everyone. All I am saying is dont forget that if you dump on the low men, the higher ups in up falling on their back sides too.:2cents:

Wes (and Marc?)

Organize a poll here, analyze the data, and send the results to the ASQ Board.
