New Guy here.
I am QA in a Part 145 repair station. Recently during an external Customer audit the question came up "do we need to advance to the Z540-3 standard?". Is this strictly voluntary?
Currently our calibration procedures comply to the Z540.1. We only calibrate dial calipers, micrometers, and torque wrenches for use in-house by OUR mechanics only. We do not have a calibration lab per se. We send out all other calibrated tooling to labs that are compliant to the Z540-3 standard.
Since we calibrate our own tools only, are we required to comply to the Z540-3? If not, where can I get objective evidence of this to submit to the Auditors?
Thanks for any input !!
