When I belonged to the Huntsville, Al chapter, some of the ASQ members were looking for a way to become certified as auditors/lead auditors. An Audit Consortium was formed and approximately 30 companies were enlisted as members. Each member company furnished at least one representative to the group. The consortium, on request by a member company, would schedule a pre-assessment or internal audit and provide a team of volunteers to perform the audit. Member companies paid per diem and expenses for the auditors. No fees for auditing. Each company received in turn a high quality audit and the auditors received credit for audits and experience. While I was a member, we performed 13 initial assements and all 13 companies were certified on their first audit. I think this is a great way to keep your certification status and gain experience. Member companies benefited from this by receiving impartial audits at low costs.

I agree that is a great setup. I know there is a similar consortium in Cincinnati but I haven't been to a meeting or anything. I used them once about 2 years ago. Don't know the whole details of their set-up but I do know a guy who's real involved quite well. If anyone is interested in information on the Cincinnati consortium let me know. I'll shoot you Les Dow's e-mail address. IP: Logged |
