we are seeking iso certfication for our internal audit dept. any suggestion if we should do standard or process approach considering a small audit dept.

Maybe you could fill us in on a little more detail. Are you a bank? What standard are you applying for?

Whenever this is discussed on this site the opinion seems to be that you build and audit a system that matches your processes. not the standard.
That is certainly my feeling also.
