For ISO 9001 2000, is keeping hard copies of the quality documents necessary? Or are softcopies enough?

I don't know, do the requirements say anything about this?

Unless I've not interpreted it correctly - new vocabulary of definitions tells us.

Documents can be in any of the following formats:
paper
electronic
computer disk
pictures
master samples

(and the big key for us here is) "OR A COMBINATION THEROF - We create handwritten inspection records & scan them into a computer database - to save filling up file cabinets.

Regards
Jim
