We are in the process of implementing ISO 9001. I wish you can help me with
the following questions.

1> Is the Committee Draft 2 of ISO 9001: 2000 available?
2> If yes, where can I get it from?
3> Can we follow and implement this new draft at this stage, instead of
1994?
4> Can we ask the certification body for the ISO9001:2000 (CD2) certificate,
instead of 1994?
5> If the CD2 is not out as yet, do the above queries apply to CD1?

Any suggestion, comment and assistance will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Ashish Bagaria

Here are a few threads to check out: http://https://elsmar.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000001.html

I haven't kept up with it, to be honest. I think we're still at draft 2. Any of you other folks know exactly what's happening with the standard?

Open Discussion of the Year 2000 Version of ISO 9000

-------------------------

Attention CD2 of ISO 9000, ISO 9001, and ISO 9004 for the year 2000 have been approved for consideration as a draft international standard (DIS).

However, a great deal of comments were submitted with the vote. This has resulted in a new proposal to be considered at the September 13th plenary meeting of the ISO/TC176/SC2 group. It has been proposed that the comments be reviewed by ISO/TC 176/SC2/WG 18, and the text of ISO/CD2 9004:2000 be revised by WG 18 to produce the DIS draft.

That means that we now have to wait until mid-September to see if the DIS will be issued with significant adjustments to meet most of the criticisms submitted. Odds are now very high that the same requirements from CD2 will stay intact, but new language and structure may be introduced. Stay tuned.

Hi,

Am I right to say that the original and subsequent revisions of the standard had/has as emphasis the following:

1987 - conformance to requirements
1994 - continuous improvement
2000 - customer satisfaction

You can build your system to any standard you want as long as the intent of the current standard is met. So if you do ISO 9001.2000 make sure you have met all of 9001.1994 as well until the DIS is released/valid...

Yup - I feel (ah hemmm) somewhat ahead of the game in that I worked with a company which went thru regustration in June. The Q manual was to CD2. I just started a client which I am using the draft to 'guide'. But yes - ya dtill have to comply with the 1994 version.

Your concerns must have been expressed before as the new draft release of the standard - ISO/DIS 9001:2000 has addressed your concerns (some anyway).

In part, the old and the new say -

ISO/CD2 9001:2000
8.4 Analysis of data for improvement
A system level procedure for the analysis of applicable data shall be established to determine the effectiveness of the quality management system and for identifying where improvements can be made. The organization shall collect data generated by measuring and monitoring activities and any other relevant sources.

Now says (and even the title has changed):

ISO/DIS 9001:2000
8.4 Analysis of data
The organization shall collect and analyze appropriate data to determine the suitability and effectiveness of the quality management system and to identify improvements that can be made. This includes data generated by measuring and monitoring activities and other relevant sources.

And as to the word continually:

ISO/CD2 9001:2000
8.5 Improvement
8.5.1 General requirements
The organization shall continually improve the quality management system. The organization shall establish a system level procedure that describes the use of quality policy, objectives, internal audit results, analysis of data, corrective and preventive action and management review to facilitate continual improvement.

Now says (again with a change of title):

ISO/DIS 9001:2000
8.5 Improvement
8.5.1 Planning for continual improvement
The organization shall plan and manage the processes necessary for the continual improvement of the quality management system. The organization shall facilitate the continual improvement of the quality management system through the use of the quality policy, objectives, audit results, analysis of data, corrective and preventive action and management review.
