Can someone suggest literature on the use of optical flats? Greg IP: Logged |

Van Keuren (the manufacturer of our optical flats, and perhaps of yours as well) puts out a reference sheet called "FLATNESS INTERPRETATION CHART, Light Wave Band Pattern Guide". It is, in my humble opinion, quite self-explanatory to the trained dimensional calibration person. I notice on the chart that they also reference "The Van Keuren Precision Measuring Tools Handbook". I show them at Van Keuren There is also a very brief description of the use of optical flats in "Inspection and Gaging" Sixth Edition by Kennedy, Hoffman and Bond. Published by Industrial Press Inc. This does not in any way imply any endorsement or recommendation for either of these. They are the only information I know about, so am sharing for informational reasons only. ------------------ IP: Logged |

The only active specification that I know of for optical flats is A-A-58051, available *free* from the Department of Defense ASSIST site in a PDF format. Go to http://astimage.daps.dla.mil/quicksearch/ and in the [Document Number] field type '58051'. From there you can download the document. Ryan IP: Logged |
