Women in Employment - the Indian Situation

Happy Women's Day.

Times of India (News Paper) reports some improvement in the situation with respect to employment of women in India
1. 3 % women hold top executive positions in India compared to 10 % in Europe and 14 % in the USA
2. The % of women in Senior management grew to 14 % in 2012 from 9 % in 2011
3. 23 % of the women in Senior Management are in the HR function (16 % in Finance and 10 % in Sales)
4.Indian School of Business (MBA classes) has 28 % women students; women students consituted 23.3 % of the short listed candidates at the Indian Institutes of Management (for MBA classes) in 2012 against 15.96 % in 2011. This is compared to 35-45 % women MBA students in good business schools in the USA

I am glad to see a positive trend in utilizing the great potential of women in the development of India. I am sure that this trend will be sustained for some time to come.

I would have been happier if only this news is NOT accompanied by the news of increasing incidents of rape and molestation of young and minor girls around the country, especially at the Capital, New Delhi.
