PPAP Requirements of one division within an organization to another division

We have a new division of our organization (located 300 miles away) that will supply us with cold formed ( IN PROCESS ) material. My question is what are their requirements for PPAP to us? Normally, the finish print would be used for PPAP submission, but they will be working off of our “manufacturing” prints that we supply to them. Side note, our division just received our recommendation for TS 16949 certification and we supply to the BIG 3 so we have to take into account their requirements also.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I assume you're treating the other division as a supplier and they are technically supplying you with a raw material to be processed? What are they doing now in the way of APQP?

I think that you should use the bulk materials route

You are correct in your assumption that we are treating them as a supplier, but can a product that has required dimensions (this is a fastener) still be considered raw material?

They are performing APQP's.

Whilst they are not manufacturing to the finished print, your other division will be manufacturing to a set of specifications, i.e., the working print that you have supplied, material chemical and mechanical specifications etc. They should have in place the full APQP requirements to ensure that these features are controlled to your satisfaction.

As regards PPAP submission, this to some extent depends on what your customers want from you. Talk to your customer STA engineers and ask what PPAP submission level they require. If they don't have any specific PPAP requirements, I would suggest you default to a level 3 PPAP.

We have the same thing here,,, actually 5 different divisions. Our system is set up so that we can't ship to our customers (including another division) without PPAP approval. If you are shipping to the big 3, your STA is probably going to require the PPAP, IMO.
Just a thought, Was a P.O. cut to your sister company??
