Packaging seal inspection

Does anyone know of a cost effective machine that can be used to detect pouch defects such as contamination and holes in paper, tyvak and high barrier tyvak pouches? I looked in to PTI seal sensor but it is too expensive.

Hi, we routinely use foil pouches to package sub-components of our medical device. We use a dunk test to verify seal integrity. We place the sealed pouch in an desiccator partially filled with water (enough to submerge the packaged subcomponent) place the lid on the desiccator an ensure a good seal (may need to use a lubricant on the gasket to get a good seal) and use a vacuum pump to pump down the chamber to at least 10in. Hg (or relevant pressure stated by your pouch mfr). We then observe the pouch for one minute. If the seal is satisfactory then no streams of bubbles should be observed. If the heat seal was ineffective, or if the pouch has a hole then the operator will observe a steady stream of bubbles. Pretty low tech method, but we've used it for many years with great success! Hope this helps!
