SAE AS8879 Interpretation - Using a Johnson Thread Gaging System

When gaging threads per SAE AS8879 Para 3.5.2 using a Johnson thread gaging system on the functional gage members. does the spec interpretation mean you would have two threads plus the chamfer stick out of the gage that have to be in tolerance. Or could you back the thread up into gage until part is flush with end of gage member?

Per AS8879 and the part number procurement specification, the imperfect thread would be excluded when you set up on the functional Johnson Gage.
