Are the AIAG VDA FMEA SOD (severity, occurrence, detection) ranking tables and AP (action priority) tables advisory or do we need to comply with them fully? Can anyone comment?

It depends on your customer. I know JLR did have different SOD criteria to the AIAG when we last did a project with them. Do your customer requirements state which criteria to use? Most of our state to use the AIAG.

Why do AIAG/VDA occurrence tables evaluate failure mode and or failure cause. What should be preferred? Why could you rate D=1, if the failure mode is prevented?
