API 6A Certification Question

As a API Q1 company, can we receive new valves disassembled from an API 6A certified manufacturer and then reassemble, test, and sell the finished goods using the 6A# from the original manufacturer?

The valves must meet all 6A requirements (including being fully assembled, tested, and marked) at the time that they leave the 6A licensee's facilities.

Thanks for your reply, jmech. The valve parts would be leaving the OEM factory disassembled, and we would reassemble So, it doesn't sound like we would be able to keep the OEM 6A certification if we went this route. Is that correct? Thank you.

If the valve parts are leaving the OEM factory disassembled, the OEM would probably be obligated to remove their monogram from the parts and you would not be allowed to reapply it.

API generally considers the assembler of a valve to be the manufacturer of that valve. API normally only allows its licensed manufacturers to apply the API monogram at their licensed location. What you are proposing is not something that API wants to allow.

You can review the "API Monogram Licensing Program Requirements" (available from: API Monogram Program & APIQR ) to check the rules for yourself or email API to ask them. They normally respond fairly quickly to these types of inquiries.
